Patient Pick-Up

Thank you for getting your pet spayed or neutered at The PAWS Clinic!  Please read this document thoroughly before you pick up your pet after surgery.

PLEASE NOTE

  • Pick-up time for dogs is promptly at 4:00pm the day of surgery.  For cats, pick-up time is promptly at 7:30am the day after surgery.  There is a late fee for late pick-ups. Patient discharge proceeds relatively quickly, as long as you are on time.
  • Prior to picking up your pet, please review our post-op care video. Alternatively, you can listen to the instructions by calling 313-451-8200 and selecting option 6.  The instructions are also published on our website. When you pick your pet up, we will answer any questions you have about caring for them post-surgery.
  • Your pet will be checked for fleas immediately upon entering the clinic and prior to surgery. If live fleas or flea dirt (feces) are seen, we will administer a fast-acting pill that kills fleas (Capstar). There is a $5 fee for this pill, which can be paid when you pick up your pet.
  • A face mask securely covering your mouth and nose is highly encouraged and appreciated when interacting with our staff.

Picking up your dog

Dog discharge begins promptly at 4:00pm the day of surgery.   Please ensure that you have watched the post-op care video, listened to the phone recording, or read the online post-operative discharge instructions prior to arriving, so that we can answer any questions you have about how to care for your dog.

Please remain in your car when you arrive to pick up your dog.  At 4:00pm, we will begin texting people to come up to the building.  You will be texted in alphabetical order, by last name.

Should you not respond promptly to our text, we will proceed to the next person in our list.  We will text you again once we have reached the bottom of the list.  Note that there is a late fee if you arrive after we have finished the discharge process for all clients.

You will be asked to pay for any outstanding balance at this time.

You will be given a copy of your pet’s medical record from their visit to the clinic, as well as after-hours emergency instructions and a printed copy of our post-operative care instructions.

A member of our staff will call you the morning after surgery to check on your dog.   Should you have any questions or concerns at any time, please call us at 313-451-8200 and leave a message, and make sure to mention that your dog just had surgery.  We will call you back as soon as possible.

We begin our admission (patient drop off) process for the day promptly at 8am, and sometimes a few minutes earlier.  If you do not respond to a second text, and we have already begun our intake process, you should come up to the registration desk.  You will be asked to provide a phone number where we can text you, and asked to return to your car.  We will text you when you may come up to the building and get in line.  Those who arrive once the admission process has begun may be required to pay a late fee.
